Process Flow/Step Container Extension for Qlik Sense

Another sleepless night and another extension (or 2.. see the Score Card extension details below)! Ability to display a process flow/steps is something I missed in Qlik Sense. Yes, you can build multiple visualisations and put them in certain order to create a process flow but that uses up the screen space and do not always look great in mobile view. So, I decided to build something that is simple to use and allows the user to set up a flow/steps for their process and ability to display different visualisations for each step.

2 More Qlik Sense Extensions…

I have been working on a Data Literacy project with my 6 year year old son the past few weeks (I will cover that topic another time). I wanted to make the charts more relatable for him. To get him to engage with the data side, I found myself developing a few extensions. The project revolves around a game that I built (17 years ago…) and I needed to display the results with his game avatar. And that led to these 2 simple extensions.

My top 3 takeaways from Qonnections 2019

This was my first visit to the Qonnections, thanks to the Tahola team for arranging the trip and inviting me to join. Being a fairly frequent tech show goer, I thought I knew what to expect and what I will see there. But boy, was I in for a surprise, Qlik team went an extra mile (or 10) to make the event truly special. There were big announcements (Attunity, Qlik Insight Bot, Qlik Data Catalyst), there were big demonstrations on ABDI, Conversational Analytics by non other than Elif Tutuk (@elif_tutuk), there were plenty of talks from various Qlik industry experts and to top it all, an appreciation party at Dallas Cowboys world headquarters – The Star in Frisco. There were something for everyone – hands on workshops for Qlik tech enthusiasts, presentations and demos for all (techies or non techies alike) and most of all, games, competition/hackathon for the not so faint-hearted seasoned developers. This also provided a great opportunity to meet and swap ideas with industry experts, specially with Qlik Branch gurus and Qlik Luminaries.

Qlik Load Script Alerts to Microsoft Teams

Qlik Sense is a great platform, however, it has its shortfalls. One of them would be the lack of push notifications out of the box from QMC. Last year, I worked on a few solutions to send alerts via emails to users’ inboxes and via APIs/webhooks to bespoke applications when there is a job failure on Qlik Sense Enterprise. I have utilised the QRS API as well as REST connector and webhook technologies to achieve all these goals. That got me thinking, what else can be done using webhook? At Tahola, we (the developers, consultants) use Microsoft Teams as part of our collaboration suite. I thought it would be a good idea to be able to send alerts to the Teams channel directly from Qlik data load scripts (via REST connector), whether be a load completion alert or just a simple KPI summary table from the data model. So, I spent few hours building a PoC Qlik application to that goal, and thought, I should share the concept with others as it might be useful in some scenarios.
